The Mediator: Shadowland by Meg Cabot

This book made me smile because I think it's somtimes funny and a little bit romantic. Suze is the main character and she just moved from New York to Northen California and she though she was going to be a loser like she was in New York. But she instantly becomes popular, which is really ironic. She is what people call mediator, which is someone who can see ghosts. This is the why people though she was a freak and didn't talk to her. But now she is really popular and the sophmore vice president. This book also made me laugh because her three stepbrothers are funny. They protect her and at the same time annoy her. It also makes me smile because there is a ghost, his name is Jesse, who she is starting to fall for even thogh he died 150 years ago.

The best part of the book was when she went to the exorcism on the ghost of the girl who lived at the school and the roof fell on her when she had finished and her brothers came to save her because Jesse had told her brothers that she had gone to the school. And her oldest stepbrother thinks she is in some type of gang because she always gets into trouble but it is really because the ghosts that follow her get her into alot of trouble. Now her youngest stepbrother kind of suspects that she can see ghosts. And the worst part of the book was when the ghost tried to kill the principal and almost killed him but he didn't die.

Conncetions to the Alchemist

A connection that I have with The Alchemist is that I think about my dream all the time. We also have people telling us to follow our dreams and telling us nothing's impossible. How me and Santiago are different is that he knows what he's looking for and were exactly that place is ,he also has alot of people telling him to persue his dream l;ike the king, the candy seller, and Fatima and the alcemist is going to lead him to the pyramids and I don't exactly have a guider telling me which route to go. I agree with all the decisions that he has made like telling the chieftants about the mirage that he had but maybe I wouldn't told them about that illusion because I would thought it was just an illusion. I agree with him for also having following the Aquemist. What I probably wouldn't had done is to give the money to that guy, but I guess that was an omen, and it was ment for him to meet the Englishman.

The Alchemist Symbols

Symbols
-Urim and Thummin
Meaning uncertain, possibly "Light and Perfection" or "Perfect lights". A method for inquiring of the God of Israel that was kept part of the priestly garments. The Rabbis understood the Urim and Thummim to be part of the Breastplate of the High Priest and that its oracular function came from light shining through the twelve gemstones mounted on the breastplate. Some believe the Urim were the lights, while the Thummim was a device or code that helped in interpreting the message.

-Omen
Omen seen or heard or even visualized at the initiation of an activity, are said to foretell the outcome of the activity.

-Desert
The Sahara (arabic"The Greatest Desert") is the world's largest hot desert. At over 9,000,000 square kilometers (3,500,000 sq mi), it covers most of Northen Africa, making it almost as large as the United States or the continent of Europe. The desert stretches from the Red Ses, including parts of the Mediterrian coasts, to the outskirts of the Atlantic Ocean. To the south, it is delimited by the Sahel: a belt of semi-arid tropical savanna separating the Sahara from Sub-Saharan Africa.

The Alchemist Part 2

The Oasis
This picture reminds me of the alchemist because Santiago and the Englishman travel in a caravan to pursuit their Personal Legend and they and the other people land in the oasis. This oasis is important in part two because thats were the Alchemist lives and the Englishman has traveled so far and for so long to get to that place to ask the Alchemist about the Elixir of Life and about the Language of the Universe. While the Englishman has been reading in books about the Language in the Universe he doen't know that it is love, whwt he has been looking for all his life is just love. Santiago found the Language of the Universe by just looking at Fatima and he thought that him coming to the oasis was a good omen.

Snow

I am reading a book called Snow. It's about the story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfes, but a little different. She leaves her home because her stepmother wants to kill her. So she goes to leave with some half-human, Half-animals and she becomes a maid and works for them as long as she lives in that place. She is lonely since she is alone in that house the whole day. Her father never showed any feelings for her because he loved Snow mom alot and Snow's mom died when she had Snow. Someone who would like to read this book should like fiction stories.

The Alqumist part 2

Some changes that I've seen in Santiago is that he seems more confident about going to the pyramids. He recognized that he could look for the treasure and if he dosen't find anything he could still go back to beign a sheperd. At least knowing that he could still look for the treasure he will be happy to know that at least he tried to realize it, not like the cristal merchant who was afraid. And Santiago is not afraid of realizing his dream now that he knows he could still be a sheperd.

Dear Lemony Snicket,

I have been reading the books A Series of Unfortunate Events. I'm in the fourth book, The Miserable Mill where the orphans go to their new guardian. I started reading this series because a friend told me to read it. I am very sad to see three children working in such a terrible place with that mean foreman. How could they give the workers gum for lunch and pay them with coupons that you get in the newspaper. And why are the workers still there? Working in that awful place, why don't they just leave and never come back? Why did Mr. Poe leave them with that man who you can't even see his face? and he new they would have to work in order to live there. It really annoys me that when they have Count Olaf on their hands they never catch him. He is greedy and mean man who dosen't care about anything other than to get his hands on the money. I hope he never gets the Baudelaire fortune.

The Alchemist

The Alchemist is a book about a boy seeking his personal legend. I find really intersting that he is actually going to make that journey. What is really interesting is that the king told Santiago all about him, that Santiago had never told anyone. Why would a king be telling other people to chase their dreams when he's a king. I always though kings where like greedy or arrogant. But this king is not all about himself. So in this book the king's job is to tell people about their personal legends but what about the king? Where does the king get the information about the people he seeks. I wish someone could just come to me and tell what's my purpose in life and my purpose in this world. It would be much easier , but in real life you won't know your personal legend until your old

Reading this year...

Reading this semester so far has been great. I've read some great books. Lately I've been readin the Harry Potter series. I love them even more than the movies because they have more details and explain the theme better. I've just finished the sixth book and I need to get the seventh and last book The Deathly Hollows. They're so far my favorite books I've ever read. I've just finished readin the sixth book and it was sad because Dumbledore dies because Snape killed him and left with Draco but I always though Snape was good and I still believe it. I know Harry will defeat Voldemoert but I wonder how without Dumbledore. I think Harry, Hermione and Ron will look really deeply into the memories and find out were the Horcruxes are and they will tell the Order too about the memories and the Horcruxes and they all will find them and destroy them and defeat Voldemort and the Death Eaters.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

I think what will happen in the book is that Harry will find something really useful about is enemy Lord Voldemort. Something that will help him defeat him and Lord Voldemort will be weak again like when he tried to kill Harry when he was a baby. And Harry will finally find proof that Draco is a death eater. And his going to tell Ginny that he likes her.

I wake up in the morning...

I stand up and the book that I was reading last night fell from bed. Now that I see the cover and see the whole story go through my head, I remember that I dreamed that I with the characters but not the same story though I only remember flashbacks from it. I go down the stairs and see Mo having breakfast reading one of his many favorite books. He looks up at me and smiles and says...
"Good morning, Maggie"
I smile back and start getting myself breakfast. I sit down next to him and grab a book from the stack of books thats in the table. Me and my father own alot of books and there are books everywhere in my house. I've alot of them but not as much as my dad has. I got my love for books from my dad. Though sometimes I wonder why he has never read aloud to me, but i don't really give much thought about it. I just though he didn't like to read aloud. But I was never ready for what I learned later.

Dreams

I think dreams are somehow important because everyone has different ones. I think they some do have a meaning but I also think we really will never know what they mean. You may read what some people think it means but they really don't know because even if you dream about the same thing it may have a different meaning. I don't think Santiago should have believed the gypsy. Dreaming is just like imagination but like I said you never will know what your dreams been. Maybe I would do the same thing if I could and maybe if I didn't had any risks. Interprattation is just guessing what dreams mean and made up stuff.
